Howard Noyes, 92 of Battle Lake died Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls , Minnesota .





Howard Gladstone Noyes was born on November 29, 1918 in Pope County , Starbuck , Minnesota the son of George and Theoline (Thorstenson) Noyes.





Howard and Gladys Gorder were married on May 31, 1941 in the Indherred Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck. Howard and Gladys owned and operated a grocery store in Starbuck, which they sold in 1957. In 1958 they bought the Red Owl Store in Battle Lake and later built and operated the First Supermarket in the area which is now Larry's Market. Howard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church , then became a member of the First Lutheran Church . He enjoyed lawn care, fishing, playing cards, telling jokes and first and foremost family, especially his grandchildren.





He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two daughters, Bonnie (Ken) Fletcher and Marsha Farwick; one son, Bruce (Carol) Noyes; grandchildren, Stephanie (Curtis) Lee, Kristen (Jim) Coleman, Rachel (Merle) Biggs, Lia (Brian) Bush, Kelsey Noyes, Kendall Noyes and Mark Noyes and by ten great-grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, George and Theoline Noyes; brothers, William, Raymond and Franklin Noyes; and by sisters, Margarite (John) Gaarder and Gladys (David) Chan.





In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to First Lutheran Building Fund or Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center .
