Henry Mark

Henry Mark, 90 of rural Dalton died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Henry Mark was born on June 6, 1924, at home in Tordenskjold Township, rural Dalton, Minnesota the son of Cornelius and Koosje (deBloois) Mark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Tordenskjold Lutheran Church and attended Rural School District #20 in Tordenskjold Township. In 1943, at the age of nineteen, he enlisted into the US Army serving in the European Theatre under Patton's 3rd Army during World War II. Henry was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement, was one of Ottertail County's most decorated soldiers and was Honorably Discharged in 1945.

Henry and Ann Conn were married on July 5, 1946 at her parent's home in Parkers Prairie. After their marriage they lived in Parkers Prairie until 1954, when they moved to their farm north of Dalton. Henry worked a lifetime in road construction, first with McGary's Construction and then many years with Mark Sand and Gravel Company. He had memories of being on the crew building the Alaskan highway. Henry was a motor grader operator then many years as a foreman for a hot mix crew, retiring in 1987. Henry enjoyed his dogs, reading western books, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and his favorite thing was watching the cattle. He loved to visit and could talk to anybody. Henry enjoyed his family and especially visiting with his grandkids.

He is survived by three sons, James (Bonnie) Mark of Fergus Falls, Curt (Donna) Mark of Dalton and John (Kim) Mark of Dalton; eight grandchildren, Amy (John) Busko, Jason (Lindsay) Mark, Molly (Chad) Gronner, Jay (Jesse) Mark, Jill (Nick) Carroll, Joshua Mark, Lindsay (Bill) Milbeck and Chris Mark; ten great-grandchildren, Harlow Ann Mark, Jorja, John and Jax Gronner, Clara Ann and Maggie Mark, Zacary and Maison Carroll and Hazen and Londyn Milbeck; brother, Floyd Mark of Dalton; sister, Marie (Dennis) Priebnow of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Duffy (Bill) Schwartz of Rochester; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Ann on April 30, 2014; parents, Cornelius and Koosje Mark; two brothers, John and Martin Mark; four sisters, Huberdina Mark, Nellie (Art) Larson, Corie (Hjalmer) Pederson and Bessie (Clifford) Swensrud.

Funeral Service: 2:00 pm, Monday, March 23, 2015 at Zion-Sarpsborg Lutheran Church in Dalton

Visitation: Sunday from 5 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Tordenskjold Lutheran Cemetery, rural Underwood
