Helen Minchinton Torgerson, 84, of Fergus Falls, died of cancer on February 4, 2015, with her family by her side.
Born to Barney and Erma (Gorsuch) Such on March 13, 1930 in St. Thomas ND, Helen grew up on a farm near Hallock, MN and graduated from Kennedy High School. She graduated from the Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND, and there met Tom Minchinton. The couple married on October 29, 1950 and had a happy life together with their 5 children. Those years included Helen's work as a pediatric nurse, involvement with their Lutheran Brethren church family, hospitality to visiting missionaries and service at Inspiration Point Bible Camp. Tom passed away in January 1986.
Helen married Ellsworth Torgerson on May 31, 1988 in Grand Forks. They lived in Fergus Falls, MN and wintered in Black Canyon City, AZ, spending time with family and friends and serving at their local churches. Helen was famous for her gracious and sincere hospitality which usually included her amazing fresh cinnamon rolls and a bed with a homemade quilt. She was known for her love for her children and grandchildren. Helen leaves a legacy of love, faith, service and a life well lived.
Helen is survived by her children, Ruth (Roy) Egstad of Aitkin, MN, Paul (Teddie) Minchinton of Rochester, MN, Mary (Frank) Hutton of Roseville, MN, Lois (Loran) Rogness of Fergus Falls, and Joel (Theresa) Minchinton of Rochester, MN; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and the children of Ellsworth Torgerson; siblings, Bernice (Ted) Carlson, Melvin (Helen Ann) Such, Elsie (Louie) Egstad, Don (Alice) Such, Robert (Sharon) Such; and sister-in-law, Trudy Such. She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Such.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lakeland Hospice.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Friday, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
