Harland Martinson

Harland D Martinson, 87, of Ten Mile Lake, Rural Dalton, Minnesota passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls .





Harland Martinson was born to Henry and Melve (Flatness) Martinson on December 27, 1922 in Pomme De Terre Township, Grant County, Minnesota. He attended District #63 School and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1940. Harland worked on the family farm and joined the U.S. Navy from 1943-46.





On November 15, 1943, he married Doris Stenson in Paltine , IL . The couple lived in Elbow Lake where they owned and operated Elbow Lake Cleaners until 1962. Harland then worked for the City of Elbow Lake as Clerk and also Secretary of the Power Commission until 1985. He served as Tumili Township Clerk for 18 years.





Harland married Sally Leapaldt on December 29, 1979 at Augustana Lutheran Church , Fergus Falls . The couple resided at Ten Mile Lake, rural Dalton . He enjoyed hunting, golfing, gardening, fishing and playing cards. Harland is a member of Our Saviors-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church and Pederson-Tripp American Legion Post #357 of Ashby.





He is survived by his wife, Sally; two children, Joyce Morgan of Jacksonville, AR, and Timothy (Becky) Martinson of Peoria, AZ; six step children, Bernell (Rose) Leapaldt of Chaska, Loren (Ellen) Leapaldt of Edgewood, WA, Arlynn (Gwen) Leapaldt of Eden Prairie, Marlys (Jeff) Skogmo of Detroit Lakes, Eldon (Val) Leapaldt of Bismarck, ND and Don (Ella) Leapaldt of Fergus Falls; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.





Harland was preceded in death by his first wife Doris; his parents, one sister, Norma Tiffany, and two brothers, Gordon and Webster.
