Guy Carter

November 14, 1956 — May 3, 2015

Guy Richard Carter died peacefully on the morning of Sunday May 3, 2015 at his home in Reno Nevada after a long valiant battle with ALS. His loving wife of 26 years, who had been with him every step of his journey, was by his side.

Guy was born on Nov. 14, 1956 to Don and Ann (Rosean) Carter in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In 1958, his family relocated to Springfield, Oregon, where Guy attended grade school until 1966, when his family moved again to Halfway, Oregon. They later returned to Springfield where he graduated from Springfield High in 1975.

In June 1978 Guy married Wanda Dehart. To this marriage a son Ryan was born Sept. 12, 1980.
Guy lived in Reno for eight years where he managed the Mogul Mouse ski store. He was well known in the area and had hundreds of customers and many friends. Here he met the love of his life, Melinda Henneman. The two were married at Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Ashby by Pastor Eric Erickson Sept. 24, 1988 before returning to their Reno home. Their union was blessed with the birth of daughter Emily Rose June 14, 1990 and son Zachary Jake Sept. 29, 1992. As their young family grew they relocated to Ashby, where they established and ran a successful business, first known as The Other Guy's Place and later as Rumor Has It. Guy was a brilliant businessman. Their customers came from far and wide and after Guy began serving his own special kind of food, the place was filled many nights a week. Everyone seemed to know and love the friendly bald bartender. Guy enjoyed being a part of a small community and did his part by serving on the Ashby City Council from 1995 through 1998.

After living in town for a time, they built a beautiful 3 story home on Pelican Lake where they lived until Guy's health declined, at which point, they returned to Reno for the warmer climate. Guy loved the lake and spent many hours with family and friends on his pontoon. He also particularly enjoyed fishing, playing cards and sports — his favorite teams being the Vikings, the Twins and the Oregon Ducks.

Guy was preceded in death by grandparents Sherman Sr., Frieda Carter and Harold and Mabel Rosean. Left to mourn are his wife Melinda of Reno; daughter Emily of Fergus Falls; sons Zachary of Minneapolis and Ryan of Oregon; father Don Carter of Oregon, mother Ann Pfaff and step-father Dick Pfaff of Oregon; brothers Greg (Penne) Carter of Oregon and Jeff (Sheri) Carter of California and sister Jody Carter (Randy Stevens) of Oregon; father and mother-in-law Jake and Marlo Henneman of Evansville; sisters-in-law Geri (David) Hammer of Ashby and Vicki (Larry) Bjorstrom of Long Prairie; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. May 29 at the Presbyterian Church in Ashby with Pastor Tom Junkert officiating.

A reception will follow at the Ashby American Legion.

Interment will be in Pelican Lake cemetery.
