Grace Jensen

July 9, 1922 — April 10, 2010

Grace Arlene Jensen, age 87, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls .



Grace Arlene (Kaasa) Jensen was born on July 9, 1922, to Carlos and Laura (Hawkenson) Kaasa on the family farm in rural Elbow Lake Township in Grant County . As a small child, she and her family moved to Fergus Falls , Minnesota . Grace graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1940. After graduation, she was a bookkeeper at the S&L Store.



On September 7, 1946, Grace and Reuben Miller Jensen were married at the First English Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls . In 1956, Reuben and Grace and their two sons, Jerry and Gene, moved to Elbow Lake where they were part owners of the Gambles store . In 1959, they sold out their interest and purchased the Gambles store in Ashby, where they operated the Hardware Hank store for over 40 years. Reuben and Grace traveled to many Gambles shows across the country over the years.



Grace was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby, loved quilting and made countless embroidered dish towels for family and friends over the years. She was a also a den mother and a volunteer driver for local senior citizens.



Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Reuben; son, Gene (Lynn) Jensen; grandsons, Matthew (Megan) Jensen and Michael (Nicole) Jensen; step-grandchildren, Bill Anderson, Jennifer (Cliff) Barber, and Deanna (Andy) Aamot; great grandchildren, Sydney Marianne and Katherine Grace Jensen, Reed Miller Jensen, Brandon, Bradley, and Ada Anderson, Aubrie, Natalie, and Garrett Barber, Tianna, Kalista, and Kyra Aamot; sisters-in-law, Ethel Kaasa and Dorothy Kaasa; and numerous nieces and nephews.



Grace was preceded in death by her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Jensen; brothers, L.C. ( Lorain ) Kaasa and Ivan Kaasa and infant brother, James.



Her family will profoundly miss her generous, kind, loving spirit.



Visitation: Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church



Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby

Burial: Pelican Lake Cemetery , Ashby
