Gladys Jacobson

Gladys Jacobson, 97 of Evansville died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Evansville Care Center.

Gladys Elvine Jacobson was born on April 24, 1916 on a farm in Evansville Township, rural Evansville, Minnesota the daughter of Gustave and Alma (Wahlin) Berglund. She attended the Oak Hill School by Melby and graduated from the Evansville High School.

Gladys and Gilford Jacobson were married on July 19, 1936 at her parent's home by Evansville. After their marriage they lived in Lund Township. In 1961, they moved to Rochester where she worked for Lawlers Cleaners as a seamstress. In 1963, they moved to Lake Village, IN. for the summer and returned to Evansville in November, and in 1964 built a new home in Evansville. In 1969, they sold their home and moved to Ashby. From 1976 to 2002 Gladys and Gilford lived on Big Island Road on Pelican Lake. They then moved to Alexandria until 2007 when they entered Crestview Manor.

Gladys was a member of Our Savior's Church which is now Faith Lutheran in Evansville and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed traveling with Gilford and especially bus trips and their wintering in Texas. Gil and Gladys traveled to Norway and also Germany when Myron was in the service. Gladys enjoyed vegetable gardening, flowers, sewing, pets and the children.

She is survived by her daughters, Jan Braaten of Alexandria and LuAnne (Orv) Holte of Garfield; sons, Gale (Kathy Shatto) Jacobson of Fostoria, IA and Myron (Judy) Jacobson of West Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren; and by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and by sisters-in-law, Mary Berglund of LaCanada, CA and Corinne Berglund of Evansville. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Gilford on October 17, 2007; parents, Gustav and Alma Berglund; and by two brothers, Ansel and Clinton Berglund.

Funeral Service: 10 am Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville.
Visitation: Sunday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Evansville and one hour prior to the service
