Gladys Elberling

Gladys Elberling, 89 of Ashby died Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo.

Gladys Mathilda Elberling was born on June 14, 1926, in Frazee, Minnesota the daughter of Charles and Mathilda (Trick) Stender. She attended the Dent Public School.

On May 31, 1952, she married her husband, Kenneth Elberling. With him, she celebrated sixty-two years of marriage. In 1966, the couple adopted their only daughter, Barbara. Gladys was a homemaker with her husband who farmed on their family homestead. Gladys enjoyed gardening, tending flowers and maintained her well-kept home. She was the backbone of the operation. They lived on the family farm until their retirement in 2010, when they moved into Ashby.
Her hobbies included traveling, if not on a vacation they would drive to many different areas in Minnesota. Gladys was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She was active with the Ladies Aid and enjoyed spending time with family and especially her granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Kenneth; parents, Charles and Mathilda Stender; three sisters, Lila Rosenow, Charlotte Johnson and Carolyn Nord; and by one brother, Lloyd Stender.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Barbara Elberling of Fargo, ND; two granddaughters, Suzanne of Chicago, Illinois and Rennah of Fargo; three sisters, Betty (Jerome) Haldorson of Duluth, Joyce Ulhig and Margaret Laugen both of Fergus Falls; three brothers, Ken Stender of Fergus Falls, Charles Stender of Barnesville and Clem (Betty) Stender of Albert Lea; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many family members.
