Gerry Gapinski

August 1, 1928 — July 8, 2010

Geraldine “Gerry” Elizabeth Gapinski was born on August 1, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Peter and Laura (Grabinger) Thompson. Gerry was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith. She graduated from LeClaire High School in LeClaire, IA.





On October 20, 1946 Gerry was united in marriage to Edwin Gapinski at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in LeClaire, IA. Gerry worked at Strieter Motors in Davenport, IA as Office Manager. In the late fifties, Gerry and Ed owned and operated Grand Vu Resort on Leech Lake for three years until they returned to LeClaire. In 1972 Ed and Gerry moved to Battle Lake, MN. They enjoyed managing Three Lakes Resort on Deer Lake for a number of seasons. Later, Gerry was employed at First National Bank. She moved into the newly constructed Lakeview Senior Apartments in 2007.





Gerry was an avid volunteer for the Christian Women’s Club, the Battle Lake Food Shelf and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She also enjoyed reading for the blind and coordinating many of the Lakeview Senior Apartments activities. She was ‘Aunt Gerry’ to many nieces and nephews and always enjoyed their company.





On July 8, 2010 Gerry passed away at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls at the age of 81.





Gerry is survived by two sisters, Loretta (Bill) Buchheit of LeClaire, IA and Darlene (Gene) Bremmer of Parkers Prairie, MN; two brothers, Loren P. (Janie) Thompson of Detroit Lakes, MN and Patrick (Laurie) Thompson of Alexandria, MN; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many friends.



She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin on April 8, 1996; her parents Peter and Laura; and three sisters Arlene, Delores, and Mary Jane.
