George Marotteck

October 18, 1926 — February 21, 2014

George Marotteck, 87 of Fergus Falls passed away at home due to complications involving congestive heart failure. His family was by his side holding his hand.
George was born October 18th , 1926 and grew up in Fergus Falls. He graduated high school in Fergus Falls and immediately joined the United States Army during World War II. George took basic training at Ft. Benning, and then was issued orders to serve as a teletypist in Yokohama Japan from 1945- 1946. Upon returning to Fergus Falls, he courted and married Adeline Jacobson on May 30, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls.
George and Adeline raised two beautiful daughters during their marriage, resided their entire lives in a home they built together moving only after Adelines death in 2001. They especially treasured the time when granddaughter Kristy lived with them.
George had a great life, was a wonderful provider, and loved his family, giving his third and fourth "daughters" Muffy and Twinkles(dogs) free reign. He started at a young age delivering papers for the Fergus Falls Daily Journal, then moved up in the Daily Journal holding many positions from advertising manager, business manager and retiring in 1986 as publisher. He kept his passion for newspapers, reading 2 a day, until his death.
He gave 20 years of community service to the Lions Club of Fergus Falls and served as president of the Eisenhower school PTA. His outdoor activities included rock hounding and making jewelry from his findings, recreational hunting and fishing, with a 17lb walleye caught on Battle Lake being his record! George was also a coin collector, constantly searching for the latest coin for his collection. Georges final years were spent living with his daughter Sharon were he was able to enjoy many moments sitting on the deck viewing the lake.
He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Hazel (Borowski); wife, Adeline; sister, Bernice.
George will always be remembered by his daughters, Sharon Storm of Fergus Falls, Georgia (Mike) Marts of Fargo ND; granddaughter, Kristy of Fergus Falls; great granddaughter Kayla, great great grandson Anthonee, brothers -in-law Hersal (Flo) Jacobson of Fergus Falls, Herbert Jacobson of Sacramento, Ca, many nieces and nephews, cousins, Connie (Vern) Vallevand, Roger (Kay) Borowski, both of Fergus Falls, with many more family and friends.

A memorial service is not planned at this time, but a
spring celebration of life open house, in his honor, will be held at a later date.
