Ethel Palmquist

Ethel Pearl Palmquist was born February 3, 1916 in Pomme De Terre Township to Peter and Emma ( Austin ) Brandvold. She was baptized and confirmed at Hjerdahl Lutheran Church .

Ethel graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1934 and attended Moorhead State College for 2 years. She earned a teaching certificate and taught in a rural school near Herman for 2 years.

On June 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Virgil Palmquist. They lived on a farm near Melby and Ethel continued her teaching career in Melby and Evansville .

After retiring from teaching, she and Virgil made 2 trips over to Sweden . They enjoyed visiting relatives over there and Ethel continued her correspondence with them after Virgil died in 1985. Ethel continued living on the home farm until the fall of 2009 when she moved into Evansville Senior Living.

She loved baking cookies for her grandchildren and friends. Her love for sports was evident in her enjoyment of watching her grandchildren play and cheering on the Vikings and Twins. She loved serving others and opening up her home to anyone who wanted a cup of coffee and good conversation.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; infant son; daughter, Beth Cunz; brothers, Orlan and Lauren Brandvold.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Larry) Carlson; 5 grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Staples, Andy (Liz) Carlson, Aaron (Jillayne) Carlson, Alison Cunz and Alexa Cunz; 5 great-grandchildren, Dawson, Gage, Ryder and Addison Staples, and Blaze Carlson; 2 step-grandchildren, John and Lydia Jesnowski; son-in-law, Tom Cunz; sister-in-law, Helen Brandvold; brother-in-law Dave Lundgren; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
