On September 12, 2012 Emily (Spies) Scott, 94 of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in St Paul in the care of her two daughters and hospice.
Emily was born on November 17, 1917, the 2nd youngest child of Henry and Clara (Wedll) Spies in Elizabeth, MN. In 1930, she moved with her family to Fergus Falls. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1935. She married Merle Scott ("Scotty), also of Fergus Falls in 1944.
Before her marriage, she worked at the candy counter at Woolworth's Five and Dime in Fergus Falls. Later, she helped her husband to start Scott's Jobbing, a home-based wholesale business supplying candy to stores throughout the region. She also worked at the food counter at the Northern Air Lane's bowling alley. Her Catholic faith was a central focus of her life and for many years she volunteered at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was an active member of her church circle group and in later years she volunteered at the Lake Region Hospital, bringing flowers and cheer to patients.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Cyril and George, sister Evelyn (Corliss), many sisters in law and brothers in law, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Survivors include her husband Merle, son Jim, daughters Mary and Jeanne (Steven Muenzer) and grandson Jason Scott. Also numerous nieces and nephews and 3 sisters-in-law: Laura Spies (George); Ethel Spies (Cyril) and Violet Scott (Clifford).
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church (OLV) in Fergus Falls at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 17.
Visitation will be at the Church from 9 – 11 a.m.
After mass, all are invited for internment at St Otto's Catholic Cemetery, followed by lunch at OLV Church.
