Elmer Trosdahl

Elmer Trosdahl, 91 of Battle Lake died Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Elmer LeRoy Trosdahl was born on June 22, 1925 in Nidaros Township, rural Clitherall, Minnesota the son of Fred and Anna (Paulson) Trosdahl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Nidaros Lutheran Church and attended Rural School District #155, the Charley Lake School both of rural Clitherall.

Elmer and LuElla Erickson were married on November 23, 1946, in the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. After their marriage they farmed in Nidaros Township and in 1952, they purchased their farm. They left their farm for a couple of years living on the iron range in Hoyt Lakes, where Elmer worked as a brick layer assistant at a Taconite Plant. They returned to their dairy farm, where they together operated the farm enjoying the farm life. In 1982, they retired from the farm and moved into Battle Lake. Elmer sold insurance for The Farmer, was employed with Cenex, and then worked with his son, Doug with Trosdahl Painting. He enjoyed woodworking, vegetable and flower gardening, bird watching, square dancing with Pairs and Squares dancing group, and he thoroughly enjoyed traveling to Norway to visit his foreign exchange son, Idar Eggen. Elmer was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. He liked visiting with friends and especially enjoyed his family. Elmer was a lifetime member of the Nidaros Lutheran Church where he had served on the church board, a member of the Sons of Norway in Vining, Battle Lake Lions Club and the Farmers Union. He had been a 4-H Leader, had served on the Nidaros Township Board, and was a founding member and board member of Farmers Union Oil Company, now Cenex in Battle Lake.

He is survived by his wife, LuElla; five children, Ervin (Pamela) Trosdahl of Clitherall, Sherry Pedro of White Bear Lake, David (MonaLisa) Trosdahl of the Philippine Islands, Douglas (DeeAnn) Trosdahl and Jon (Jodi) Trosdahl both of Battle Lake; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bradley (JoAnne) Trosdahl and Katie, Brent (Vanessa) Trosdahl, McLaine, Yancy, Laney, Lawson and Dalton, Rachel (Vern) Newman, Vern Jr. and Benjamin, Austin Strong, Anthony (Nikki Niedermayer) Trosdahl, Lindsey Trosdahl, Brianna Trosdahl, Bryson Trosdahl, Adam (Valerie) Trosdahl, Kaylee, Sydnee and Averee, Allison (Aaron) Buehler, Cian, Owen and Adian, Shelby (Brittany Bleichner) Trosdahl, Dean (Tiffany) Saurer, Emma, Jayden and Leia, Dustin Saurer, Cayson and Camden, Kari (Ben Karsnia) Saurer, Ayla and Rylie, Jacob Hanson, Adam (Amanda) Hanson, Theresa, Daniel and Olivia, JacobTrosdahl and Nicholas Trosdahl; and by numerous relatives and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna Trosdahl; son-in-law, Joe Pedro Jr.; five brothers, Clifford, Weldon, Marvin, Bennie and Glenn Trosdahl; and by one infant sister.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Nidaros Lutheran Church of rural Clitherall.

Because the Nidaros Church Supper is Saturday evening, VISITATION WILL BE FRIDAY from 4 to 7 PM, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior at the church on Sunday.
