Edna Fjestad

February 22, 1920 — February 7, 2017

Edna Fjestad, 96, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Broen Home in Fergus Falls.

Edna Dorothy Fick was born on February 22, 1920 on the family farm near Elizabeth, MN, the daughter of John and Martha (Beske) Fick. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. Edna attended grade school in Elizabeth, graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1937. She went on to attend Moorhead State Teachers College, receiving her teaching degree. Edna taught at grade schools in the Fergus Falls and Rothsay area.

On June 15, 1949, Edna married Clifford Fjestad at Triniry Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and together they raised five children on their farm near Carlisle.

Music was an important part of Edna's life: she was director of the Hedemarken Choir for many years, sang in the Sons of Norway choir, taught piano lessons to neighborhood children, and never missed a musical event in the community. She was active with Ladies Aid, the Carlisle Homemakers, and 4H events.

Edna enjoyed traveling, most notably her trips to Norway, Germany, and the many Security Partners bus trips. She enjoyed spending time at her grandchildren's plays, music concerts, and events. Most memorable for Edna were the many family get-togethers for birthdays and family reunions.

Edna is survived by her children, Barbara (Russell) Dewey of Ashby, Maury (Jan) of The Villages, Florida, Eileen Fjestad of Fergus Falls, Peter (Rebecca) of Fergus Falls, and Phyllis (Steve) Seaburg of Moorhead; nine grandchildren, Mark (Chelle) Dewey, David (Heather) Dewey, Jaclyn Fjestad, Daniel (Kristina) Fjestad, Jason Fjestad, Sara (Zach) Lange, Bradley (Kelly) Fjestad, Shaun (Laurel) Seaburg, and Joshua Seaburg; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anna Fjestad of Fergus Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; grandson, Jedd Fjestad; two brothers, Art Fick and Albert Fick; and three sisters, Alma Roehl, Emma Ferber, and Clara Boese.
