Duane Liden

Duane Liden, 88 of Battle Lake died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Duane LaVerne Liden was born on June 25, 1925 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota the son of Oscar and Julia (Rhodegaard) Liden. He graduated from the Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1943. He enlisted with the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Moffett during World War II.

Duane and Gladys Laura Houle were married on May 28, 1950 in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. They lived in Thief River Falls where they raised their family. Duane was employed in Thief River Falls by Torgerson Oil (Phillips 66) until purchasing the Standard Oil Service Station on Main Street, "Dewey's Standard" which he operated until his retirement. In August of 1983, they moved to their home on Silver Lake near Battle Lake. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake, the Eagles, American Legion and the VFW. Duane enjoyed woodworking, fishing, watching sports, wood ducks and was an avid bird watcher. He enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary (Brian) Williamson of Greenbush, Debi (John) Anderson of Elbow Lake, Ginny (Harlan) Stendel of Plymouth and Kim (Tim) Hanson of Fridley; ten grandchildren, Lisa Anteau, Nathan and Karl Anderson, Kamen and Marcus Williamson, Laurie Slaathaug, Justine Rosten, Nicole and Rachel Stendel and Julia Hanson; ten great-grandchildren; and by numerous relatives and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys on July 27, 2007; six brothers, Arvill, Emmett, Lyle, Kenneth, Donovan and Ardell Liden; and by two sisters, Harriet Liggett and Verna Froiland.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Saturday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 8 pm with a 7 pm Prayer Service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
