Dorothy Overvold

Dorothy Overvold, 89, of Fergus Falls died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Pioneer Senior Cottages. She was born July 18, 1922 in Fort Dauphin, Madagascar to American missionaries David and Emma Lovaas. The family returned to the US in 1930. She attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis where she met her husband Alex Overvold of Velva, ND. Dorothy served in the US Coast Guard Women's Reserve (SPARs) in Cleveland during the war and married Alex in 1946 upon his discharge from the Army. In 1950 they began agricultural work in Zululand, South Africa with the Lutheran Church. Returning to the US in 1961 they lived in Velva, New Town (where Dorothy worked for the US Postal Service) and Fort Totten, ND. During their retirement years they lived on their Velva farm, in Arkansas, Bismarck, and Fergus Falls, MN. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Alex, her son John, and her sister Evelyn. Survivors include her children Judith (Hal) Habermann of Fergus Falls, David (Patricia) Overvold of Minot, ND, Carol Overvold and her husband Andrew Jacobson of Ambler, PA and Charles Overvold of Elberta, AL; eleven grandchildren and step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters Catherine Stulken of Waunakee, WI and Constance Beck and her husband Duane Olson of Bloomington, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 12:00 noon to 1 PM at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, MN

Funeral Services: Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, MN

A second service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva, ND

Cemetery: North Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Velva, ND (A reception for family and friends will be held at 917 16th Ave. SE in Minot following burial at the cemetery).
