Dorothy Duffner

December 4, 1917 — November 13, 2013

Dorothy H. Duffner, 94, a resident of the Broen Home in Fergus Falls died Wednesday, November 13, 2013.

She was born Hanora Anna Walta on December 4, 1917 to Henry and Anna (Wagner) Walta in Kranzburg, South Dakota. She legally changed her name to Dorothy at a later time. Dorothy graduated from Watertown S. D. high school in 1937.

Dorothy married Florian A. Duffner (Cap) November 14, 1946 and together they made their home in Watertown S. D. where Cap was a partner in Duffner Drug. Dorothy was the bookkeeper from 1961 until the store closed in 1969. Cap Duffner died July 12, 1974 and Dorothy subsequently moved to Fergus Falls to live with her sister, Margaret Lampy, until Margaret's death in 2008. Dorothy then moved to the Broen Home.

Dorothy was a polio survivor. In spite of this she led an active life including duck hunting with Cap and riding her favorite horse, Prince. She and Margaret were avid bridge players and she loved to spend winters in Orlando, Florida. She was a wonderful cook and raised many dogs.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Cap; brother, Jack Walta and sister, Margaret Lampy.

Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephews including Dick Reddy (Nancy) of Traverse City Michigan, Dianne Walta Hart (Tom) Corvallis, Oregon, Greg Walta (Sue Edgar) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Doug Walta (Trudi) Portland Oregon, James Lampy (Patricia) Rapid City, South Dakota, Mary Velo (Dale) Fergus Falls, Minnesota; and many great-nieces and nephews.
