Donald Heitmann

Donald Heitmann, 80, of Fergus Falls, MN, formerly of Breckenridge, MN, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.

Donald Arthur was born February 18, 1935, to Art and Emma (Dockter) Heitmann on the family farm in Sheridan County, North Dakota. He received his first four years of education in a farm school. In 1944, he moved with his family to Anamoose, North Dakota and in 1953 graduated from Anamoose High School.

In September of 1954, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in September of 1956. He worked with his father for one year and in September of 1957 enrolled at the North Dakota State School of Science and graduated in 1959. Don worked one year at Sturdevant's Auto Electrical. After leaving here he went to work for Red River Implement Company where he spent 25 years working for John Deere.

On August 3, 1958, Don married Jewil Mundel in Wahpeton. In 1962 the couple moved to Breckenridge, Minnesota. In 1969, he was elected to the Breckenridge City Council. Don served as alderman and vice mayor for 22 ½ years. In 1991, he moved to Fergus Falls and started to enjoy retirement there. Don loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed working with wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jewil in 1981.

Don is survived by two sons, Daniel of Seattle, WA and David (Kathy) of Castle Rock, CO; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Stueven of Mound, MN; a step-daughter, Julie (Brian) Greene of Underwood, MN; six grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Jessica, Ben, Brad and Chase along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Friday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church

Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Breckenridge, MN
