David Harcey

December 6, 1979 — October 24, 2013

On October 24, 2013, David Gabriel Harcey left his body behind along with its impairments. His wheelchair, bed and his medical equipment are empty and silent. David's sweet spirit is now home with Jesus his Savior.

David was born on December 6, 1979, in Brainerd, Minnesota. Early on in his life, it became apparent that David would face challenges that most of us don't. Along with those challenges, he was blessed with an amazing personality, a gentle soul, and a heart-warming smile that no one could resist.

Although David couldn't' express himself verbally, his joy was obvious doing the activities he loved most: celebrating his birthday, getting his picture taken, spending time with family and friends, sharing a laugh over a good "oops", bowling, dancing, watching the Vikings and Twins, riding the carousel at the zoo, camping, going for pontoon rides, and watching movies. He loved Mickey Mouse, Disney World, horses and music.

Due to his special needs, David lived in foster homes. Among those, families especially close to him were Mike and Suzanne Koep, Steve and Denise Synstelien, Daryl and Linda Synstelien, and their families. Equally significant to him were the many wonderful nurses who took excellent care of him throughout his life. He treasured meeting and knowing his birth family. David touched countless lives, quickly becoming more than a client or resident. Instead, he was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend. Many have shared how knowing David has changed them for the better. Undoubtedly, David was blessed by the concern and loving care of so many.

David is survived by his foster parents, Mike and Suzanne Koep, Fergus Falls; foster siblings, Michelle (Koep) and Justin Distel, Fergus Falls and Katie Koep, Moorhead; goddaughters and nieces, Ainsley and Emma Distel; mother and step-father, Cindy and Randy Moser, Brainerd; brothers Chad and Brett Moser, Brainerd; grandmother, Betty Harcey of Baxter; foster grandparents, Wes and Ruby Koep, Wendell and Richard and Beverly Golembeck, Annandale; his aunt Gloria Thompson and his uncle Tim Harcey; numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death was his grandfather, Laurel Harcey and brother, Avery Moser.
