Dale Marcus

Dale Marcus, 82, of Battle Lake died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Woodland Lodge in Fergus Falls.

Dale Eugene Marcus was born on October 15, 1931 in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the son of Peter and Lena (Kohrs) Marcus. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Reform Church in Prinsburg and graduated from the Clara City High School in 1949. Dale attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan for one year and then was employed one year with his brother, Carl, with Marcus Construction.

Dale and Audrey Hedstrom were married on August 21, 1953 in the Svea Lutheran Church in Willmar, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in Roseland, Minnesota until Dale entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Kentucky. After his discharge, they returned to Roseland for a short time before moving to the Twin Cities area where Dale was a Postal Carrier. In 1973, they moved to Battle Lake where they owned and operated the Rusty Nail for six years, then had Dale and Audrey's for one year. In 1984, they moved to Detroit Lakes where Dale was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. Dale and Audrey retired in 1992, when they began seasonal living between Belmont Lake by Clitherall and San Benito, Texas.

Dale was a member of Eagle Lake Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Battle Lake Lions Club. He was a craftsman doing woodworking and painting, he loved to dance, teaching line dancing and square dancing along with teaching Aqua Aerobics. He was active in the Palmdale R.V. Resort in San Benito. Dale enjoyed rodeos along with NASCAR racing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Jackie (Bob) Wagner of Brandon and Roxann Marcus of Fergus Falls; two sons, Greg (Mary Jo) Marcus of Fergus Falls and Perry (Connie) Marcus of Underwood; six grandchildren, Melissa (Lonny) Duenow, Peter, Garrett, and Sarah Marcus, Jezmae (Tracy) Burkett, and Justin (Candice) Wagner; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Thorsten and Camille; one sister, Shirley (Curt) Jensen of Willmar; one brother, Carl (Shirley) Marcus of Prinsburg; one brother-in-law, Bob (Brenda) Moore of Rapid City, SD; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey on April 18, 2005; parents, Peter and Lena Marcus and sister, Rachel Moore.

Dale's family would like to thank the staff at Woodland Lodge and Lakeland Hospice for their wonderful care they gave to Dale and the family during his family during his stay at Woodland Lodge.

Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Thursday at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday, August 8, 2014 at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church of rural Battle Lake.
