Corinne Gustafson

Corinne Gustafson, 88 of Battle Lake died Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Corinne Frances Gustafson was born on December 13, 1927, in Logan, Iowa the daughter of John and Anna (Spanswick) Hardie. She graduated from Logan High School in 1946, then furthered her education receiving an Iowa Standard Teaching Certificate. In 1947, she taught one year in Iowa. Corrine then moved to Minnesota where she taught at Barnhard School District #120 of rural Underwood.

Corrine and Charles Gustafson were married on June 26, 1950, in Park Rapids, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in Girard Township for fourteen years. She was employed with Noyes Red Owl for twelve years, Nelson Produce for two years, receptionist for the Battle Lake Medical Clinic, and then with State Farm Insurance as an office manager for a total of twenty years. She loved being with and helping people. Corinne was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid Group, and served on the church board for six years. She was a life member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary. Other boards served on were Community Education, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Battle Lake Senior Citizens, Fergus Falls DAV, Lakewood Cemetery, First Lutheran Cemetery, Good Samaritan Auxiliary and Battle Lake Art of the Lakes where she was involved in keeping the art show in the Railroad Park. She was a volunteer at the Lake Region Hospital for nine years, volunteer for Otter Tail County Human Services, and was very involved with the Phelps Mill Festival for fifteen years.

She is survived by niece, Sheila (Dan) Keskitalo of Crosslake; nephew, Scott Seedorf of Battle Lake; great niece and nephew, Tayler and Cody Seedorf; great-nephew, Jonathan (Kim) Keskitalo; great-great niece, Betsy Mae; great-great nephew, Ridley; foster daughter, Laurie and family; Charles's nieces and nephews; a beloved family who adopted her as a Grandma, Gary and Jean Dirckx, their children, Leah, Heidi and Sam and grandchildren, Elliana, Luke, Bennett and Reagan; and by many relatives and friends. Corrine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene Hardie; husband, Charles; sister and brother-in-law, Ardith LaVonne and Elmer Seedorf.

A personal note from Corinne, "Thank you to all the wonderful people who placed their confidence in me and helped me to have a wonderful life in this community. God bless you all."

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Girard Cemetery Fund or Battle Lake Good Samaritan Auxiliary.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Monday, October 10, 2016, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

Visitation: one hour prior.

Interment: Girard Cemetery
