August 22, 1923 — October 21, 2012

Borghild Trangsrud Thoreson, 89, formerly of Battle Lake passed away October 21, 2012 at the Broen Home.

She was born August 22, 1923 at her family's farm near Wyndmere, North Dakota, the daughter of Alfred and Josephine (Minge) Trangsrud. She grew up during the "dry years" and attended country school. She graduated from Wyndmere high school with her brother Arvid. She taught at North Dakota rural schools. Borghild then graduated with a two year degree from Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught third grade at Madison school in Fergus Falls. During this time she met Horace Thoreson. They were married October 16, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Delamere, North Dakota. Horace and Borghild lived on the Thoreson family homestead, Tordenskjold Township, rural Battle Lake for 56 years. They had three children; Alan, Joanna, and Jean.

Borghild was extremely busy with her farmwife/mother role. She was also on the District 1383 school board. She held many offices in church women's groups and attended many national conventions. Elderhostel and women's week at Luther Crest were important to her.
She sang in the Trefoldighed church choir, taught Sunday school, and was a Stephen minister. Borghild was a 4H Leader, a member of an extension homemaker's group, and was in the Gideon's Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arvid, husband Horace and other friends and loved ones.

Borghild's survivors include: son, Alan (Alta) Thoreson, Maplewood; daughters, Joanna (Bud) Rustad, Hancock and Jean (Chris) Drechsel, Fergus Falls. Borghild is also survived by her brother-in-law Abner (Evelyn) Thoreson, Pelican Rapids and sister-in-law Kathryn Thoreson, Mountlake Terrace, WA and five nieces and nephews.
