Bill Gillespie

Bill Gillespie, 73 of rural Battle Lake, Minnesota died Monday, October 27, 2014 at his home.

William Franklin Gillespie was born on June 24, 1941 in Beckley, West Virginia the son of Milton and Clare (Colley) Gillespie. Bill graduated from the Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia in 1960 and married his high school sweetheart Sandra Lilly. He then entered the U.S. Air Force on September 6, 1960, stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California with the 93rd Bomb Wing as a mechanic. He was Honorably Discharged after four years of service on September 4, 1964.

After his discharge they moved to Detroit, Michigan where Bill began employment with General Motors in the Engine Plant, where he worked for forty-one years until his retirement. They moved to their home by Battle Lake in 2010, Bill enjoyed golf and appreciated living between two golf courses.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; three children, Chuck Gillespie of Perham, Lori (Don) Moncur of Garden City, Michigan and David (Dana) Gillespie of Battle Lake; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Kevin (Rebecca) Gillespie, Sarah and Mary Anne, Dylan, Daniel, Derek and Dena Gillespie; one brother, Milton Edward (Phyllis) Gillespie; and by numerous relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Clare Colley; five brothers, Clifford, Raymond, Roy, Harold and Jack Gillespie and one sister, Joann Miller.
