Betty Rokes, 86, of Henning, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Society.
Betty Marie Rokes was born on May 17, 1927 in Battle Lake, Minnesota the daughter of Lawrence O. and Bessie (Dodge) Halvorson. She attended the Battle Lake Public School graduating from the Battle Lake High School in 1945 then continued her education for one year at the St. Paul Bible Institute.
Betty and James Rokes were married on July 29, 1946 in Battle Lake. After their marriage they lived one year in a home then built a home by rural Clitherall. In 1964, they moved to a farm east of Henning where they lived until 1977 when they moved west of Minneapolis to Silver Lake, where they resided for five years before moving to rural Vining. Jim passed away on September 2, 2003, and in 2004 Betty moved into the Clement Manor Apartments in Henning. Betty enjoyed making quilts for the Empty Stocking Fund, the Indian Reservation and also for her family. She was a letter writer, writing to many people including missionaries. Betty enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by five sons, Steve (Judy) Rokes of Clitherall, Tom (Joyce) Rokes of Wadena, David (Shirley) Rokes of Hewitt, Bob Rokes of Henning and Ron Rokes of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Dale Schroeder, Mike Rokes, Kristine (Ty) Nelson, Angel (Kevin) Aho, Samantha (Brian) Rokes, Donald (Christina) Rokes and Bill Anderson; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Matie Stull of Sun City, AZ; and by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; granddaughter, Olivia Robyn Rokes; sister, Beatta Kemnitz; and brother, Paul Halvorson.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Battle Lake Alliance Church.
Visitation: Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:30 pm and one hour prior to the service all at the Battle Lake Alliance Church.
