Audrey Jensen

November 2, 1934 — June 18, 2014

Audrey Jensen, 79, of Battle Lake died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Golden Manor in Fergus Falls, surrounded by her family.

Audrey Eleanora Jensen was born on November 2, 1934 south of Battle Lake on the family farm, the daughter of Otto and Alice Holm. She was baptized and confirmed at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. As a girl, she was lucky enough to have a pet chicken that followed her around like a puppy. Audrey attended country school in Clitherall Twp. She left home after 8th grade and lived with the Evert family in order to finish high school, doing cleaning for them also. She graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1952.

Audrey and George L. Jensen were married on August 29, 1954 at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church by Pastor Bob Hawkinson. After their wedding, they lived 2 miles south of Battle Lake on the Jensen farm, moving to the George Jensen Sr. farm after 1971. Together, they raised 7 children and worked on the family farm. Audrey's first job was at the Shoreline making homemade pies and doughnuts. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Howland, as well as for the Connor Creigh family at their summer home on Battle Lake cooking assorted fancy dishes and staying in their guesthouse. She cooked for the Battle Lake School, and was head cook at the Battle Lake Nursing Home, making her famous caramel rolls for the residents. She also worked for 3M as a temp on the assembly line, and the Ottertail Nursing Home as a CNA until she retired. George and Audrey moved off the family farm in 1999 to their home 2 miles east of Battle Lake.

Audrey was a member of Trefoldighed Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the church choir, and active in ladies' aid. She loved playing piano and organ and had a beautiful singing voice. Her family was her greatest joy, and she would make fried chicken every Sunday for the whole family to enjoy for dinner.

Her wonderful love of baking was enjoyed by all. She also enjoyed crocheting, making numerous afghans and other priceless gifts for her family.
