Arlene Larson

July 27, 1924 — August 7, 2012

Arlene Rose Mary Larson was born on July 27, 1924 in Golva, North Dakota, the daughter of George and Mollie (Keller) Erickson. She and her family lived in several North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota locations before she was graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1942. She worked in a Fergus Falls bank for two years following her high school graduation.
.
Arlene and Clarence Larson Jr. ("Bud") were married on April 10, 1944 in Trefoldighed Church in rural Battle Lake. After their marriage, they lived on the homestead Larson century farm where Arlene was a homemaker, the original bookkeeper for the Park Region Telephone Co, cooked at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls and the Battle Lake Dairy Queen, and drove school bus for Battle Lake School District for over 20 years. She was a 68-year member of the Trefoldighed Lutheran Church in rural Battle Lake.

Arlene will be remembered by family and friends for many things, including her quick mind, sense of humor, and always having the welcome mat out for whoever who might stop for coffee. She canned vegetables, fruits, and chicken until the cows came home (and sometimes long after). One of her favorite pastimes was an auto ride through the countryside, especially after she and Bud purchased a Buick with heated front seats.

She particularly enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Scrabble, most any kind of board game, and cards, especially Pinochle. In that regard, and in the parlance of the American west, Arlene died with her boots on, as she finished her last game of Pinochle with her dear friends only hours before peacefully passing away in the early morning of Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Battle Lake, MN at the age of 88 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mollie, her sister Amy Maddox, her brother Richard Erickson, and her brother Dan Erickson and his wife Eileen.

She is survived by five children; Larry (Barbara Taketa) Larson of Clitherall, Harvey (Rita) Larson of Beulah, ND, Beth (Mark McGrath) Larson of Prior Lake, Wendy (Richard) Johnson of Albuquerque, NM and Julie Larson of Bloomington; brother-in-law, Bill Maddox of St. Louis Park, MN; sister-in-law, Lucy Erickson of Rogers, MN; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christopher (Sara) Larson, Joanna, Manda and Lydia, of Las Vegas, NV; Jennifer (Keith) Kelley, Hannah and Samantha, of Enterprise, AL; Melissa (Dave) Shogren, Jackson and Mallory, of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Angela Larson of St Paul, MN, Renee and Annette Johnson of Albuquerque, NM, Jordan Sour of St Louis Park, MN, Allison (Ali Saad) Sour, Saja, and Hadi of Burnsville, MN, Aaron Sour of Fargo, ND, her sister-in-law Lucy Erickson of Rogers, MN, her brother-in-law Bill Maddox of St Louis Park, MN and by numerous friends and relatives.
