Ann Walker

April 24, 1931 — July 4, 2016

Ann Walker, 85 of Battle Lake died Monday, July 4, 2016, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Ann Breckwoldt Walker was born on April 24, 1931, in White Plains, New York the daughter of George and Gretchen (Behre) Breckwoldt. She was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Scarsdale, New York. Ann graduated from the Scarsdale High School in 1948, and then continued her education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree with the School of Education.

Ann and Don Walker were married on December 21, 1951 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Scarsdale, New York. Ann was a homemaker raising her family and did a lot of substitute teaching through the years. After their marriage they lived in Roslyn, Pa. while Don was finishing seminary. Then lived in Rhinebeck, NY, then moved to Minnesota living in Sleepy Eye, Mankato, Gonvick, Twin Valley, Wendell, Beltrami, and in 1995, Ann and Don retired to their lake home on West Battle Lake. They moved to Moorhead for seven years before returning to Battle Lake to the Lakeview Senior Living. Ann enjoyed music and singing and always was in a choir. She liked needlework, bowling, crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and sports, especially baseball and football. Ann's real enjoyment was her family and especially her grandchildren, enjoying following all of their church activities and other school events. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

Family, husband, Don; daughter, Cynthia (Gene) Pipinich of Bozeman, Mt.; two sons, William (Nancy) Walker of Yardley, Pa. and George (Tammie) Walker of Princeton; seven grandchildren, George, Karen and Andrew Walker, Jake, William and Timothy Pipinich and Nicholas Walker; four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Natalie, Olivia and Cohen; one sister, Marie Bent of Maryland; and by numerous friends and relatives. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gretchen Breckwoldt; two sisters, Jane Gest and Ruth Fraley; and brother, Frederick Breckwoldt.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 6, 2016, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home.
