Agnes Person, 88, of Elbow Lake died Wednesday at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake.
Agnes Adeline Person was born on July 11, 1924 to Andrew and Adeline (Johnson) Kolkind at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Ashby and attended country school at District 38 and graduated from Evansville High School. She worked in Alexandria and at the Brown & Bigelow Defense Plant in St. Paul during WWII. She worked for over 30 years at the drug store in Elbow Lake. She was united in marriage to Paul Person on September 15, 1945 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville, where she had been baptized and confirmed. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Evansville with Paul's father. In 1955, Paul and Agnes purchased a farm south of Ashby. Together they raised three children. In 1980, they sold the farm and built a house near Pelican Lake. They moved to Elbow Lake in 2004. Paul passed away on January 11, 2007.
Agnes was a member of Calvary Covenant Church in Evansville, where she was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and served on various church boards. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was an EMT along with her husband. She enjoyed sewing, baking, flower gardening, crafts, and having people over for meals or coffee. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary and she volunteered at the Bargain Bazaar. Agnes enjoyed traveling; she and Paul traveled to Sweden and Norway for their 40th anniversary. The special "little" trips to visit family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and those they welcomed as dear friends were very important. She also enjoyed the many trips to the cabin near Park Rapids.
Agnes is survived by her daughters, Judy (Germain) Elsing of Rushmore, MN, and Rose (Dwight) Dally of Elgin, IL; a son, Ken (Deb) Person, of Olivia, MN; six grandchildren, Lynda (Jay) Otterson, Jonathan Elsing, Ben (Shelly) Dally, Matt (Nicole) Dally, Deanna (Jason) Staples, and Curt (Amanda) Person; seven great-grandchildren, Jakob and Linsey Otterson, Elijah and Lily Dally, Amelia Staples, Trissa Person and Makenna Zieske; 2 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, a brother Andrew "Sonny" Kolkind, a sister Clarice Frykman, and a brother-in-law Alvin Frykman.
Agnes was a woman of true faith and prayer, she loved her Lord, her family and friends with devotion. Absent in the body, present with the Lord.
Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Monday, January 28, 2013 at Calvary Covenant Church, Evansville
Visitation: 4-7 PM Sunday with a prayer service at 5:30 PM at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Evansville - and one hour prior to the service at the church
